In a controversial statement, Assam BJP MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to demolish the Mughal-era Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar and replace them with temples.
Speaking to the media, Kurmi said, “I urge PM Modi to demolish the Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar and build the world’s most beautiful temples.”
He further stated that the temple’s architecture should be such that no other institution or establishment can come close to it.
The shocking statement came after the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) revised its books for various classes, including class XII History textbook by omitting the chapters on the Mughal Empire.
The chapters titles ‘Kings and Chronicles; Mughal Courts (C. 16th and 17th centuries)’ have been removed from the History book. Apart from that, some poems and paragraphs from Hindi textbooks have also been revised by NCERT.
he changes would apply to all the schools in the country that follow the syllabus of the NCERT and would be applicable from the current academic session – 2023-2024.
Reacting to the controversy, MLA Kurmi further stated that he is willing to donate at least his one-and-half year’s salary for construction of the temple.
It is to be mentioned that, Taj Mahal, the 17th century monument built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the loving memory of his wife Mumtaj Mahal, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is undoubtedly India’s crown jewel of art and one of the world’s most admired masterpieces.
The Qutub Minar is a 12th century monument built by Qutub-uddin-Aibak and is another popular spot in Delhi.
