A boat carrying 25 passengers capsized in Dibang River in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Wednesday evening, a senior official said.
The incident took place when the boat was about to reach the river bank in Amarpur after starting its journey from Chapakhowa.
Locals heard the screaming passengers and jumped into the river and saved them.
There was no report of any casualty, Tinsukia Additional Deputy Commissioner Monjit Borkotoki said.
The boat was also carrying some vehicles, with three cars and two motorcycles still submerged in the river.
A team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has reached the site and is working to retrieve the submerged vehicles, and the boat, the official added.
