Barnali Gogoi, becomes the first woman from Assam to be commissioned as the wing commander of the Indian Air Force (IAF). She is the daughter of Late Premdhar Gogoi and Anjali Gogoi of Lakhimpur, Assam.
She joined the force as a pilot officer on May 27, 1996 and was later promoted as the Flying Officer, Flight Lieutenant and recently promoted as the Wing Commander of IAF, making her the first woman from the state to achieve such a feat. She has also received the President’s Award during her service in IAF.
Ms Gogoi completed her higher secondary Education from Cotton College, Guwahati. She then pursued engineering in the branch of Electronics and Telecommunication from Assam Engineering College, where she was a Gold medalist. She further completed her masters in engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science.
