In the “biggest” drug haul in Assam, over 4 kg of heroin was seized in Karbi Anglong district and two people were arrested, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday.
A senior police officer said the value of the contraband in the international market is estimated to be over Rs 25 crore.
“In the biggest haul so far @karbianglongpol intercepted a truck coming from a neighbouring state at Khatkhati and seized 4.109 kg heroin with the help of Assam Police Dog Squad & C-20 CRPF,” CM Sarma tweeted.
“Two accused have been apprehended,” he added.
When contacted, Karbi Anglong SP Sanjib Kumar Saikia told PTI that the vehicle was intercepted on Sunday night after getting a tip-off.
“We suspect that the vehicle was coming from Manipur. A dog squad from CID helped the sleuths find the heroin, which was found concealed inside the door panel of the driver seat,” Saikia said.
