A major fire broke out at Serum Institute of India (SSI) in Pune on Thursday afternoon. The blaze was reported on the third flower in a building near the Terminal 1 gate of the institute. Thick clouds of smoke were seen coming out of one of the buildings in the SII complex.
As many as 10 fire tenders were rushed to SII where millions of doses of COVID-19 vaccine are being manufactured. One team of NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) was also moved for SII.
The Serum Institute of India is manufacturing the anti-Coronavirus vaccine called “Covishield”. As per reports received so far stock of Vaccine is safe and production of vaccine is also not affected by this fire.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is in touch with the Pune Municipal Commissioner and is taking complete on-ground updates on the fire that broke at the under-construction building of Serum Institute of India (SII) in Pune.
