Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Zydus Biotech Park in Ahmedabad to know more about the indigenous DNA based vaccine being developed by Zydus Cadila on Saturday. He reviewed the development of COVID-19 vaccine candidate ZyCOV-D. The visit was the first of his three-city tour to personally review the vaccine development and manufacturing process in the country.
PM Modi then flew to Hyderabad to visit the Bharat Biotech facility, which has partnered with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for a country-made COVID-19 vaccine using the virus strain isolated by ICMR’s National Institute of Virology (NIV) based in Pune. Bharat Biotech is conducting its third phase trials of its coronavirus vaccine candidate Covaxin at Genome Valley, around 50 km from Hyderabad.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi finally arrived in Maharashtra’s Pune city on Saturday evening to visit the Serum Institute of India and review the firm’s efforts to develop a vaccine against the coronavirus. The Serum Institute of India in Pune has partnered with global pharma giant AstraZeneca and Oxford University for the vaccine ‘Covishield’.
