A big shake for the Congress-led Mahajot ahead of the third-phase of the Assembly polls in Assam as the Bodoland People’s front (BPF) candidate from Tamulpur constituency, Rongja Khungur Basumatary decided not to contest the election.
Further, Basumatary also met Assam BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday evening and urge to join the BJP party.
Sources said that Basumatary told Sarma that he was unsatisfied with the BPF party leadership regarding support, including the financial assistance.
Sarma said, “He will support UPPL (United People’s Party Liberal) candidate Lehuram Boro in the constituency.”
Basumatary is likely to be joining the BJP formally on Thursday.
It is to be mentioned that the Tamulpur LAC in BTR goes to the polls in the third and final phase on April 6.
