Assam election: Silchar LAC Dilip Kumar Paul files FIR against three BJP leaders

Two time  legislator from Silchar LAC Dilip Kr Paul who is contesting independently has filed an FIR against his former party colleagues accusing for defaming him.

Paul said while talking to reporters at  his office meant for carrying out campaigns, “three leaders in Cachar district BJP, which I call as corporate BJP, have spoken to the media alleging that I have concealed facts before the Election Commission of India (ECI) about a case against me way back in 2004. This, to me, is a blatant lie uttered by Nitya Bhushan Dey, BJP’s organising secretary for Barak Valley, former municipal ward commissioner Abhrajit Chakraborty, and district BJP president in-charge Bimalendu Roy. They have the sole intension to malign my image ahead of the election. I have been defamed and, hence, I have filed an FIR against the trio under FIR no. 981, dated March 28, 2021.”

Interestingly, Paul mentioned to reporters that “back in 1999, a case of food adulteration was registered which was quashed in 2006,” and claimed that during the period s he did not contest in any election as the case was under proceeding.

Advocate Soumen Choudhury, while speaking for Paul informed that the case number as referred by the BJP leaders before the media is a farce as “it could be a mere mobile number and certainly not a case number.”

Three BJP leaders had informed the media on Saturday that “the party will report to the ECI with the appeal to cancel his candidature on the ground that Dilip Kumar Paul allegedly concealed the fact of a case against him via an affidavit before the ECI.”
