The Assam State Election Commission has set up green or eco-friendly polling booths in Cachar district in order to convey messages related to conservation of the environment.

Reports said, first-time voters, senior citizens and PWD voters were given saplings on polling day in the district.

Sticking to green protocol, decoration with non-polluting materials are put in the model polling booths in the district to convey about saving the environment. 

The self help groups weaved traditional ‘Sheetal Pati mats’ for the entrance gate of the booths. These polling booths displayed the cultural legacy of the district through the handicrafts and handlooms.

The commission has set up 117 model polling stations.
