Sri Lanka cancels Imran Khan’s speech to avoid clash with India

To avoid confrontation with India, the Sri Lankan government cancelled a scheduled speech of Pakistan Prime Minister, Imran Khan in Parliament. According to a report by Dar Javed, The Colombo government cannot risk its relation with India when it is getting stuck in the Chinese debt-trap and India being the saviour for the world for distributing COVID-19 vaccines.

Also, in the past recent months, there have been anti-Muslim sentiments in Sri Lanka as Buddhist people are protesting against animal sacrifices in mosques. So, it is likely that Prime Minister Imran Khan would play the Muslim card during his visit in Sri Lanka. He played the same during his Afghanistan visit last year.

Sri Lanka is afraid that he would take the parliament as a platform to counter Islamophobia in non-Muslim countries. Therefore, to invite him to speak in the parliament would be like to dice with death, according to Javed.
