At least two Army jawans, including a junior commissioned officer (JCO), have died and two others sustained grievous injuries when the vehicle they were travelling lost control and fell into a deep gorge in a remote village in Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, police said
The Army vehicle carrying the jawans, were moving from Rayang Military Station to Sitang village for ‘operation communication’ duty. They met with the accident at Dite Dime near Sitang village at around 11.10 am killing the two personnel on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as 47-year-old JCO Subedar Doiphode Laxman Santu, a native of Pune, Maharashtra and the jawan NK Manish Kumar (30), the driver of the ill-fated vehicle, who hailed from Jehanabad, Bihar. The seriously injured sepoys Sagar Ingawl and Nitin Bodake were evacuated to Assam’s Jorhat for further treatment by a helicopter, police sources said.
The villagers of Dite Dime played a key role in retrieving the dead bodies as well as the injured jawans from the accident site, Extra Assistant Commissioner of Riga, Sanjay Taram informed. He appreciated the locals for extending their helping hand during the time of crisis.
