Arunachal: Boat Capsizes with Passengers on board; Man Still Missing

A boat carrying a car, a motorcycle, and a few passengers capsized at Wagun Ghat in Changlang district while crossing the Burhi Dihing river near the Assam-Arunachal boundary on Tuesday.

According to a source, the car’s 54-year-old owner, Kiran Thapa, a resident of Wagunpathar-4 is still missing even though his vehicle has been found. The NDRF has arrived at the scene and is attempting to find the body.

Changlang DC Sunny K Singh informed that the NDRF team and the local authorities are cooperating in their efforts to find the missing person.

He stated that it was an unfortunate incident. He said,“I have constituted a committee to verify the reasons along with recommendations to avoid similar accidents in future.”

The DC added that once the report of the committee is received, the administration would be able to tell the exact cause of the incident.

Meanwhile, local sources claim that the event happened because the driver accidently accelerated the vehicle instead of applying the brake.

An eyewitness stated that the owner of the car, Kiran Thapa, was inside while ferrying his car. After the boat capsized, his car, along with a motorcycle, fell into the water of the Burhi Dehing river.

Additionally, he claimed that despite the fact that the incident was immediately reported to the local authorities, relief arrived much later.
