In a huge achievement and a historic moment for Arunachal Pradesh, 16-year-old Gyamar Nikum from Itanagar, considered as one of the brightest players of Rajasthan United Football Club (RUFC), scripts history by becoming one of the youngest players in the country to feature in the Hero I-League Qualifiers.

The Rajasthan United FC (RUFC) player made his debut for RUFC in the competition against Madan Maharaj Football Club on October 20.

Gyamar Nikum caught the attention of coach Vikrant Sharma during the pre-season in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, and was offered a scholarship seat at its Residential Football school, following his outstanding performance in the BC Roy Trophy Championship.

“Sharma was really impressed by Nikum’s natural speed and shooting power at such a young age. The coach truly believes that he has the potential to become a professional footballer. We are certain that he will impress the scouts during the qualifiers as and when the opportunity comes”, an official said.

“This has been a dream come true for me. My passion for football brought me to RUFC academy in July this year. Never did I know that I would get an opportunity to play for the senior team so soon,” an elated Nikum said, who has earlier represented Arunachal in the BC Roy Trophy Championship and in the U-15 Sub-Junior National Championship.

The RUFC’s left winger Gyamar Nikum said he has always been inspired by Lionel Messi since his childhood days and he dreams to play for India one day.

A native of Takey Village in Arunachal’s Kurung Kumey district, Nikum was born to Labour Officer Gyamar Tajik. He would be making his second appearance for RUFC on October 23 where the club will face Kenkre Football Club in a decisive match of the Hero I-League Qualifiers.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief minister Pema Khandu took it to twitter to congratulate the young footballer.
