A chargesheet was submitted by the police before the court of the chief judicial magistrate in Yupia on Thursday, against all seven accused who were involved in Techi Meena Lishi murder case.
The police have arrested six additional co-accused in the case which includes Dathang Suyang, Kapwang Letey Lowang, Taney Khoiyang, Damriet Khoiyang, Chumi Taya and Vijay Biswas alias Dengu along with Techi Meena Lishi’s husband, Roni Lishi.
Naharlagun SDPO Rike Kamsi said that chargesheet under Sections 302, 120 (B), 201 and 316 of the IPC has been placed against all seven accused.
“There are some details left, which we will be taking care of and accordingly, we will be submitting supplementary chargesheets in due course of time,” he said.
When questioned about the delay in submission of the chargesheet, the SDPO replied, “We have submitted the chargesheet within the mandatory 90 days period. There has been no delay. However, filing the chargesheet in this particular case was indeed time-taking as many accused were involved and there were a lot of witnesses, documents, evidences and locations. Documenting all these things took time”.
Nirjuli PS OC and investigating officer of the case, Minli Geyi notified that the 56 pages long chargesheet also consist of additional 118 pages of supporting documents, statements and seizure lists, and around 60 photographs.
Some exhibits have also been sent to the forensic science lab (FSL) by the department, informed the OC. He said that after the FSL report arrives, supplementary chargesheets will be submitted in due course of time by the department.
The OC said, “New angles need to be investigated, and after that we will submit more supplementary chargesheets later”. He added that the department has also in the chargesheet also appealed to the court to conduct the trial on priority basis.
On 5th November last year, seven-month pregnant Techi Meena was murdered by goons who were hired by her husband, Lishi Roni.
At present, the seven accused are under judicial custody at the Jully district jail.
A bail plea was filed by co-accused Kapwang Letey Lowang and Taney Khoiyang earlier on January 4th which was rejected by the court of the judicial magistrate first class-cum-civil judge in Yupia.
