Arunachal: Dirang’s Liung Gonpa organise World Peace Prayer Festival

As part of the World Peace Prayer Festival known as Siddhi Drubchhen, Buddhist monks and devotees gathered at Liung Gonpa in Dirang, West Kameng district, on Tuesday to pray for world peace.

World Peace Prayer Festival is an annual prayer festival celebrated with a series of rituals, reading of holy Buddhist scriptures, offering of fire rituals and monastic dances.

The abbot of the monastery, Lekey Wangchu said, “This festival will bring peace, prosperity and good health to the people across the world. The festival that started on June 7 will conclude on June 15 next.” 

According to the lunar calendar of Mahayana Buddhists, this day is also considered auspicious as it is believed on this day Lord Buddha was born and attained enlightenment.

The prayer celebration drew hundreds of worshippers from all around the world. Monks from several South Indian and Nepalese monasteries also attended the festivities.

Padma Shri, the 14th Thegtse Rinpoche of Khinmey monastery of Tawang bestowed long life to the devotees on the occasion.
