Arunachal Pradesh Governor BD Mishra’s wife, Neelam Misra felicitated local weavers as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration at the Raj Bhavan on Friday.
The weavers were felicitated for their entrepreneurship and innovation, and for carrying forward the age-old indigenous traditions of loin loom weaving.
Misra urged the weavers to uphold the long-standing custom that has traditionally aided women in their socioeconomic development.
She said that she herself has learned and is a practitioner of loin loom weaving in Arunachal, and added that the loin loom products of the women have excellent designs, exotic motifs and unique texture.
Misra also urged the local weavers to promote it from local to global and stressed on “inviting known business houses, so that they can buy directly from the weavers, without involving middlemen.”
The first lady of the state also emphasised on GI tagging of the indigenous loin loom products of Arunachal for authenticity and genuineness, which will help in their saleability in the global market.
