Arunachal Pradesh Governor BD Mishra has greeted the people of the state, particularly the Ramo, Pailibo and Bokar people of the Adi community, on the occasion of Podi Barbi festival.

Expressing hope that the festivity would usher in happiness, good harvest and prosperity in the society, the governor in his message said that festivals are important vehicles to carry forward the cultural assets of the folds.

“On the occasion of Podi Barbi, I offer my prayers to almighty Donyi Polo for peace and prosperity for everyone,” he said. 

Podi-Barbi is a harvest festival celebrated by the Ramo, Pai-Libo and Bokar communities of Mechukha Sub-Division on 5th December.

The Festival is celebrated by the Adi community of Mechuka, Tato and Monigong region of West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh to thank Mother Nature for the abundant harvest of crops in current year and also to pray for another bumper harvest and hunting season for the coming year.

It is a post harvesting festival celebrated by the community people as thanksgiving to deity and Mother Nature for prosperous and surplus production of crops.

Podi-Barbi is a gift of Miti-Mita (The Goddess of Earth and Water) and is an inseparable part of the socio-cultural life of Arunachal Pradesh.
