On Sunday, the Lower Dibang Valley (LDV) and Lohit police, along with forest authorities from Lohit, confiscated 250 dressed Khair logs (Acacia catechu) from the Balijan-Dongku region in a combined operation.
The operation was carried out after receiving information about widespread unlawful trafficking and theft of Khair trees in the region.
A partially loaded long-platform truck (AS-23AC-1842) was discovered at the scene during the operation, which was led by LDV DSP Ringu Ngupok and Lohit DSP Sange Thinley. A Mahindra Bolero (AS-23V-9100) was discovered at a distance of around 100 metres from the truck.
According to the authorities, these trucks were mostly utilised for illegally collecting and transporting Khair wood from the Sunpura range’s Paya reserve forest.
