Arunachal Elections: Over 6,000 Candidates Elected Unopposed

A total of 6,266 Candidates have been declared elected unopposed ahead of the two-ties Panchayat elections in Arunachal Pradesh, which includes 98 Zilla Parishad Members (ZPMs) and 6,168 Gram Panchayat Members (GPMs), authorities said.

As per the data issued by the State Election Commission (SEC) out of the total 242 ZPM Constituencies, 142 will go for polls, as 98 candidates have been declared elected unopposed after the last date of withdrawal of nominations on Monday. According to the poll panel data of the 8,175 GPM constituencies, 1,670 will go for polls.

The ruling BJP in Arunachal Pradesh has won Five out of 20 wards of Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) unopposed, as per the data. For the remaining 15 wards, 36 candidates are in fray for the forthcoming Polls. Out of the 36 candidates, 15 are from BJP, 14 from Janata Dal (United), four from National People’s Party (NPP) and three from Congress.

However, Elections to Vijayanagar ZPM seat along with 40 GPMs in Changlang district and Hawai North ZPM seat under Anjaw district were kept in Abeyance for various reasons.
