On Wednesday, state Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar and senior officers met with NABARD Chairman Dr G R Chintala at the civil secretariat to discuss various issues concerning the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development’s (NABARD) association with the Arunachal Pradesh government.
The chief secretary praised NABARD for its significant assistance to the state government, which has had a significant impact on the state’s overall development in infrastructure, agriculture, horticulture, and other allied sectors.
Speaking about NABARD’s contribution to the overall development of the state, Kumar stated that the bank has been working as an instrument of cooperative federalism in the state since 2014, as per the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been a staunch supporter of cooperative federalism.
He hoped that the chairman’s visit to the state would strengthen the relationship between the state government and NABRAD.
The chief secretary also hoped that the NABARD would play an important role in implementing the Centre’s Act East Policy and fully utilising the potential of the North Eastern states in general, and Arunachal Pradesh in particular, through their various expertise ventures.
The chairman of NABARD stated that the bank is willing to go above and beyond the expectations of the state and expressed a desire to continue the relationship by collaborating with the government on development initiatives.
According to the 2020-21 report, the ground level credit flow to priority sectors was Rs 439.34 crore, compared to the annual credit plan of Rs 705.50 crore. The state government’s borrowing power from NABARD has increased to Rs 251.17 crore since 2018-19, with a further increase to Rs 400 crore in 2021-22.
The meeting was attended by Agriculture Development Commissioner Rajeev Verma, Commissioner (PWD) Kaling Tayeng, Commissioner (Planning) P S Lokhande, Commissioner to Chief Minister Sonam Chombey, NABARD General Manager Partho Saha, and other stakeholders, according to an official release.
