Papumpare police recovered the weapon, a .22 revolver from accused Ngurang Taluk involved in the shooting incident at a hotel in Kimin where two persons were injured.
Kimin SDPO Dekio Gumja informed that the country-made revolver was found in pieces dumped inside the mud. He said that a vehicle was also recovered which was used to accomplish the crime by the police as informed by the accused during the cross-examination.
The SDPO said the accused was put on remand for six day after which he was sent to judicial custody at Naharlagun police station. “The charge sheet will be filed soon as the detailed reports of weapons are brought back from the Forensic Science Lab (FSL),” he added.
“It was a blind case which was most challenging to crack. The victim had no information about the person who attacked him,” he said adding, the case could only be solved with close coordination from various police station heads of Naharlagun, Doimukh and Assam counterpart.
Gumja said that the accused had earlier been arrested by the Laluk police for vehicle theft. “The accused thought that the victim was the informer behind his arrest. Which was the reason why he committed the crime out of revenge,” the SDPO said adding, the victim had no idea about it till it was disclosed today.
Gumja informed that the victims are out of danger and in good health. Gumja also requested the people from both the states to solve the personal issues through dialogue instead of making it a state issue and harassing the people of both the neighbours by way of road blockades.
It may be mentioned that Jayanta Tanti (Hotel manager) and Shiva Mollick (Waiter) were injured during a firing incident on the night of February 8. Following the incident, Kimin police had arrested Ngurang Taluk on the basis of CCTV footage and was kept on seven days remand for interrogation.
