President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday conferred Padma Shri to former Arunachal minister and social worker Karma Wangchu (posthumously) for his exemplary contributions in the field of social work.
Former health, transport and cooperation minister Karma Wangchu, was the first minister from Tawang district. He passed away at the age of 86, and is survived by his wife, three daughters and six sons.
The President conferred 54 awards (three Padma Vibhushan, four Padma Bhushan and 47 Padma Shri) on Wednesday evening at the investiture ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
It is to be mentioned that the President had approved the conferment of 106 Padma awards, including three duo cases (in a duo case, the award is counted as one), on the eve of this year’s Republic Day.
