The prime accused Tadar Chada of the recent case involving the seizure of 720 kgs of cannabis (ganja) has been arrested. A case related to the seizure of cannabis from two separate godowns has been registered against him at the Naharlagun police station.
Chada had earlier applied for bail in Sessions Court Yupia on 28 June as police were actively searching for him. Court took up the case on 30 June and rejected the bail based on strong opposing arguments by the Public Prosecutor and Capital Police in the interest of investigation.
Chada was arrested from outside the Yupia court after his bail application was rejected.
With this, three people have now been detained in connection with the case. More arrests and seizures relating to the case are being made by the police.
It is anticipated that this substantial recovery has significantly reduced the availability of Cannabis in the capital. Meanwhile, the capital police appealed to the public to come forward with information on any such activities and help their fight against drugs.
