The Tawang District administration is likely to extend the lockdown in the district beyond May 31 in a bid to contain the spread of Covid-19.
Chairing a meeting to review the Covid-19 situation in the district on Thursday, MLA Tsering Tashi said Tawang was the second district in the state to go under lockdown since May 17 and doing so was the right decision.
“The number of positive cases in the district would have been much larger had the containment measures not been put in place,” Tashi said.
The MLA further strongly supported the proposal made by PRI leaders, NGOs and bazar secretaries for extension of containment measures (lockdown) for a few more days to contain the virus. He further also appealed to all to follow the SoPs strictly.
District hospital medical superintendent Dr N Namshum said the district has witnessed more severe cases during the second wave and it would take some more time to contain the virus since many are under the incubation period.
Earlier, Deputy commissioner Sang Phuntsok informed the house regarding the measures taken during the containment period to stop the further spread of virus and the ongoing door to door RAT screening in all the villages and circles of the district. The house further decided to submit the lockdown extension proposal to the state government for its approval.
