Arunachal: Wild elephant wreaks havoc in West Kameng’s Doimara

A lone wild elephant wreaked havoc in Doimara area of West Kameng district on Sunday night, damaging a house in the village and the Kamengbari-Doimara circle officer’s (CO) office, besides partially damaging the village Gonpa.

The elephant was chased away, but there is fear among people as wildlife is very active in Kamengbari-Doimara circle.

A committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the Kamengbari-Doimara CO. It will submit the damage report to the government.

Doimara village lies in the Foothills of Arunachal Pradesh, near Missamari, Assam. Tezpur is nearest town to doimara for all major economic activities, which is approximately 98km away.

It’s a pristine destination with lush greenery and abundance of wildlife. Doimara is near the Eagle Nest Bird Sanctuary.

According to a report, Elephant human conflict is a result of habitat loss and fragmentation. When elephants and humans interact, there is conflict from crop raiding, injuries and deaths to humans caused by elephants, and elephants being killed by humans for reasons other than ivory and habitat degradation.
