In a huge achievement Surgeon Captain Marak Pertin became the first Doctor from Arunachal Pradesh to assume Command of Indian Naval Hospital Ship Kasturi in Lonavla on October 11.

Previously, Dr Marak Pertin created history by becoming the first Indian Navy officer from Arunachal Pradesh to be promoted to the rank of Captain in Indian Armed Forces.

Pertin is also the first doctor in the Indian Navy from Arunachal Pradesh. He is the son of Gargit Pertin and Betdol Pertin from Parbuk village (Bolik) in Lower Dibang Valley district.

As per an official statement, Surgeon Captain Marak Pertin has done his MBBS from Government Medical College Kota in Rajasthan. He has done his schooling from Vivekananda Kendriya Vidyalaya and higher secondary from Donyi Polo Vidhya Bhawan, Arunachal Pradesh.

Captain Pertin tours of duty encompass several important assignments, prestigious courses and challenging tenures at sea, ashore and overseas. 

The Indian Naval Hospital Ship Kasturi is a military hospital commissioned into the Indian Navy on 02 June 1980. The hospital traces its origins to 1945, when a four-bed sickbay was set up to provide medical cover to service personnel and their families of the Engineer’s Training Base of Royal Indian Navy.

It was later upgraded and converted into a 40-bed independent Naval Hospital Lonavla in September 1978 and later commissioned as INHS Kasturi, becoming the Indian Navy’s sixth hospital with a bed strength of 54 beds. 

The hospital provides comprehensive health care to defence personnel, defence civilians and their families at Naval Base and Air Force Station in Lonavla. ‘

Kasturi is named after the fragrance derived from the Musk deer. The crest design depicts a Musk deer within a lifebuoy with Blue and White sea waves in the lower portion of the design. The crew strives in its endeavours with the motto – ‘We Add Life to Years and Years to Life’.
