The announcement has come at a time when the entire country is reeling with protests against the Agnipath scheme under which 45,000 to 50,000 soldiers will be recruited annually with most leaving the service after just four years.
Out of the total recruits, only 25% will be allowed to continue for another 15 years under permanent commission.
Meanwhile the union ministry of home affairs on Saturday decided to reserve 10% vacancies in the central paramilitary forces and the Assam Rifles for ‘Agniveers’ after their four years of service in the armed forces.
