Arunachal Pradesh Chief minister, Pema Khandu congratulated the National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS) expedition team for setting a national record of rafting for more than 700 km on seven rivers in a month. The Indian Army in collaboration with NIMAS had organized the month-long rafting expedition to promote adventure sports in Arunachal Pradesh.
“Congratulations ‘Team NIMAS’ for successfully completing all 7 phases of Arunachal River Rafting Exploration Expedition and setting National record being the 1st Team to complete rafting on 7 major rivers of Arunachal in a month-long expedition covering a total of more than 700 km”, Pema Khandu tweeted.

The team consisted of 25 trained army rafters, local rafters and rafting institutes from NIMAS, who had explored seven major rivers in the state during the rafting expedition. NIMAS is an autonomous institute established by the Arunachal Pradesh government and offers specialized training in mountain rescue, mountaineering and adventure sports. It is the first national institute in India authorized to conduct adventure courses in land, air and water.
