Arunachal Pradesh Weightlifters Sandiya Gungli and Chera Tania bring laurels to the state by winning silver medals to open the medal tally for the state in the Khelo India Youth Games-2021, being held at Panchkula, Haryana.
Gungli won the silver in the 40 kg category with a total lift of 110 kgs (snatch 47 and clean & jerk 63). Tania won the silver in the 55 kg category. He lifted 212 kgs (snatch 92 and clean & jerk 120).
Chief minister Pema Khandu took to social media and congratulated both the medallists. He also showered his best wishes to other sportsperson of our state who are competing in different events.
Another weightlifter, Yukar Amak, finished 4th in the 45 kg category.
It is to be mentioned that Arunachal has fielded 32 athletes in archery, athletics, boxing, judo and weightlifting, informed Khelo India mission director Karbia Dodum, who is also the chef de mission.
Khelo India Youth Games are the annual national level multidisciplinary grassroot games in India for two categories, namely under-17 years school students and under-21 college students.
Around 8,500 players, coaches and support staff from across the country are participating in the fourth edition of ‘Khelo India Youth Games’. The games will be organised from June 4 till June 13.
