In order to inoculate as many youngsters as possible between the ages of 15 and 18, as part of an effort to protect them from the deadly COVID-19 epidemic, the Arunachal Pradesh health authorities have decided to launch the ‘Har School Dastak’ campaign today, according to a senior official.
“Under this (new) strategy, COVID-19 vaccination of 15-18 years will be conducted in every school,” – asserted the State Mission Director (NHM) C R Khampa, while adding that a ‘guidance note’ for this has been issued to all District Medical Officers (DMOs).
He asked the DMOs to prepare a list of all eligible beneficiaries of their respective districts’ secondary and higher secondary schools in collaboration with the Education Department, and to ensure that the COVID-19 immunisation of 15-18 year olds is finished by January 15, 2022.
According to a PTI report, under the ‘Har School Dastak’ approach, respective circle officers, sub-divisional officers, extra assistant commissioner/additional deputy commissioners will be tasked with carrying out the COVID-19 vaccination drive for the 15-18 age group and ensuring that all eligible beneficiaries are vaccinated within the time frame.
The Mission Director further stated that the vaccinators should be highly trained in the handling of AEFI (Adverse Events Following Immunization).
Furthermore, anaphylactic/AEFI kits should be made available at all session sites, and a rigorous 30-minute waiting time following vaccine administration should be enforced.
He stated that the districts’ performance would be monitored on a daily basis at the Chief Secretary level, and that the districts would be required to produce data on daily vaccination coverage for the 15-18 year age group.
In accordance with the nationwide vaccination drive for adolescents aged 15-18, the inoculation process for the same began across the border state on Monday, with as many as 1785 teenagers receiving Covaxin needles.
