PVC Subedar Joginder Singh memorial was inaugurated at Topeng La area near India-China border in Tawang on Friday. The inaugural ceremony was organised by the Indian Army coinciding with the day on which the battle of Tongpen La (Bum La) took place in 1962.
Kulwant Kaur the proud daughter of Sub Joginder Singh, PVC inaugurated the war memorial in the presence of Chief minister Pema Khandu along with Top Army and State Police officials. State health minister Alo Libang, MLA Dirang Phurpa Tsering, MLA Tawang Tsering Tashi, and MLA Lumla Jambey Tashi were also present.
CM Pema Khandu in his speech recalled the supreme sacrifice of Subedar Singh (PVC) who laid down his life fighting the Chinese army. He said “Fighting against all odds, Subedar Singh (PVC) attained martyrdom on this day at the battle of the IB Ridge. The people of Arunachal salute his bravery and shall always remember the supreme sacrifice he made for the nation.”
The memorial has been constructed by the Arunachal Pradesh government below the famous IB Ridge to commemorate Singh’s heroic defense against China’s People’s Liberation Army. The brave hero of the 1962 China War was revered with a bust in a colourful memorial. During the ceremony, his daughter and family members stood with their heads held high with pride and eyes wet with memories.
Subedar Joginder Singh was decorated with Param Veer Chakra for the selfless act towards his country, exactly 58 years ago on this day. He displayed not just devotion to duty, but also bravery of the highest order.
