Arunachal: Longdon Wangsu buried with full military honours

Rifleman Longdon Wangsu of the 16th Assam Rifles (AR), who was killed in the line of duty in Manipur, was laid to rest with full military honours on Friday at his native hamlet here in Longding district. The AR’s Longding battalion presented the martyr with a guard of respect and a gun salute.

Brig Vijay Chahar, Commander of the 25 Sector Assam Rifles, and the rank and file of the AR’s Longding battalion paid respect to the gallant soldier. The Longding AR battalion also provided the late soldier’s family with every available assistance and support. Earlier, DC (in-charge) Dakli Gara read out Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s sympathy message.

Thangwang Wangham, the chief of Niausa and a former minister, expressed profound condolences to the deceased family and complimented the commanding officer of the AR in Manipur for arranging the evacuation of martyr Wangsu’s mortal remains.

RWD Minister Honchun Ngandam, MLAs Tanpho Wangnaw and Gabriel D Wangsu, ZPC Lohpong Wangham, the DC, SP Vikram Hari Mohan Meena, ZPMs, heads of offices, members of community-based organisations, and members of the general public received Wangsu’s mortal remains on Thursday at the Longding helipad. Governor BD Mishra has mourned the demise of rifleman Longdon Wangsu while on duty.

In a condolence letter to Wangsu’s widow Chumki Wangsu, the governor said: “In the death of rifleman Wangsu, the people of Arunachal Pradesh have lost a brave son and the Assam Rifles has lost a valiant combatant. His sacrifice in the line of duty will be an inspiration for the youths of the state to emulate.” Conveying heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family, the governor prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
