A conglomeration of organizations under the umbrella of Joint Organizations Movement of Arunachal Pradesh (JOMA) sought Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s resignation on moral grounds on Wednesday, accusing his government of rampant corruption in many areas. The organisations, however, were unable to back up their statements.
“The state administration had signed 142 memorandums of understanding with private power developers, but Arunachal Pradesh presently has only 68.”
According to Taw Paul, president of the Pro-Dam Movement of Arunachal Pradesh, “the Central Electricity Authority has found 57000 megawatt potential in Arunachal Pradesh.”
Paul further alleged that 142 private developers had paid an upfront fee of Rs.1495 crores. He inquired, “Where has all the money gone?”
Sunny Tana Tara, president of the All Arunachal Border Students Union (AABSU), slammed the administration for allegedly neglecting to address the Assam boundary dispute.
“We have been demanding for Border Task Force to protect citizens residing along the boundary areas. But this government is not paying heed,” alleged Tara.
Furthermore, the Nyishi Ethnic Students Association (NESA) claimed that the Panchayati Raj department misappropriated about Rs.500 crores.
“Rs. 571 crores have been sanctioned in Panchayati Raj department, where did the money go, nobody knows,” asked Biri Chatum president NESA adding that the money should be given to the Panchayati Raj leaders.
The JOMA also asked that the highway agency complete packages B and C of NH 415 without jeopardising its width.
‘Within 15 days, the administration must respond to our requests, or Chief Minister Khandu must resign.’
If we fail to accomplish so, we will be forced to start a series of democratic movements beginning in early January’, According to JOMA.
