In a tree plantation and drug awareness program organized by the All Papum Pare District Students Union (APPDSU) in collaboration with the District Administration, MP Nabam Rebia emphasized the importance of collective efforts to ensure school campuses remain free from encroachments. The event, held at the Government Secondary School campus, witnessed the planting of over 100 saplings along the school’s periphery, serving as a symbolic boundary demarcation.
The APPDSU has been actively working in coordination with the District Administration and the DDSE (District Deputy Secretary of Education) to address the issue of encroachments in schools and obtain Land Possession Certificates (LPCs) for all educational institutions. During the event, MP Nabam Rebia urged the public to remove any structures encroaching upon school compounds and appealed for cooperation with the administration. He stated, “Once land is donated to the government for development projects, no further claims on land ownership can be made.”
The MP commended the APPDSU leaders for organizing the event in a remote location and advised student leaders to comprehend the impact of climate change and actively promote sustainable practices to mitigate its effects.
In response to a memorandum submitted by the APPDSU requesting a boundary wall for the school, MP Nabam Rebia assured the union that the necessary funds would be provided. Additionally, he announced a financial allocation of 10 lakh rupees for a meeting hall for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and 50 lakhs for a multipurpose community hall in Khamyaar village.
Addressing the issue of encroachments, Deputy Commissioner Papum Pare, Cheechung Chukhu, informed that the administration had conducted inspections in almost all schools within the district. He further stated, “If a consensus is reached on boundary issues, LPCs can be issued to the schools within a month.” Chukhu urged the public to take ownership of government properties and ensure their protection from any form of damage.
During the event, District Deputy Secretary of Education (DDSE), T.T. Tara, discussed the current education scenario in the district and highlighted measures being taken to improve student performance.
Dr. Komlin Perme, the District Medical Officer (DMO), addressed the gathering, focusing on the detrimental effects of drug abuse. He appealed to all individuals to abstain from drug use and contribute to building a drug-free society.
The tree plantation and drug awareness program conducted by the APPDSU, with the support of MP Nabam Rebia and the District Administration, exemplifies the importance of community participation and collaborative efforts to create an environment conducive to education and well-being.
With the collective dedication of students, teachers, administrators, and the public, it is hoped that school campuses in Papum Pare District will remain encroachment-free, enabling the holistic development of the future generation.
