Rare Golden cat rescued in Tawang

A rare Golden Cat (Catopuma Temminckii) had been rescued in Tawang by the Forest Officials.

The rare cat Under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 is listed as near threatened on the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) list.

The male cat had been trapped in a steel wire inside the Army’s Ammunition Point at JD Zong, Tawang at an altitude of 10,400ft. It was then successfully rescued by the Social Forestry Division of Tawang led by Range Forest Officer, Tage Haniya.

The rare cat was released immediately in a nearby forest area after conforming that it was healthy and had no injury on its body.
