The northeast region is likely to witness heavy rainfall starting from 29 March, on Monday. Alert has been issued in six Northeast states.
Widespread rainfall, thunderstorm, lighting and gusty winds at the speed of 40-50 kmph are likely to hit Northeast from March 29 to April 2.
According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), powerful lower-level south-westerly winds from the Bay of Bengal are set to affect the weather across Northeast.
As per predictions, rainfall will be at its highest between March 30 and March 31.
Heavy rains have been predicted at isolated locations in South Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram on March 30.
“The intense downpour could very well lead to landslides and inundation of low-lying areas in these four states on Wednesday and Thursday,” IMD forecasted.
