Assam: Another shot dead by Assam Police; says Accused Tried to Run

Another incident happened recently where Assam Police shot an arrested in police custody. Same as the previous cases, police claimed that the accused was shot at while he had tried to run from police custody.

Police informed that the dacoit identified as Anowar Hussain alias Boga and his accomplice, who were accused in involving in a number of cases including murder, were arrested from Palashbari on the outskirts of Guwahati on Monday along with arms and ammunition.

“On Wednesday, we took the main culprit to Barihat Bhalla to recover more arms. At that time, he tried to escape and we had to fire to stop him,” said a senior police official.

“A bullet hit the accused’s right leg and he was sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment,” he said.

“The duo was accused in the murder of a businessman in Bijoynagar two years ago. They were also involved in a number of snatching, theft, dacoity, extortion and murder cases in Kamrup district,” police said.

Since May, at least 15 suspected militants and criminals have been shot dead in police custody in the state.
