Assam Police Nabs ‘Fake’ Army Group near Guwahati Airport

Azara Police on Monday night apprehended 11 people, found wandering suspiciously around Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati in fake army uniform. According to sources, police acted on a tip-off and while patrolling around Guwahati Airport, they picked up the ‘fake’ army group.

The Police have recovered a vehicle, five motorcycles and fake IDs from the possession of the group. It is suspected that the group impersonating army personnel may have been carrying out various fraudulent activities in various parts of Guwahati. It seems that a bigger ring might also be involved in the matter.

“During interrogation, it was found that one Dhriman Goswami had given them fake appointment letters to provide security at the airport. Goswami has been arrested with the 10 others. Search of the houses of the arrested persons has led to recovery of some documents, ID cards etc,” the statement said. The accused persons have been identified as Dhriman Krishna Goswami, Kaushik Bhuyan, Jhenendra Das, Ganesh Das, Nayan Jyoti Gautam, Joymoni Sharma, Bijoymoni Sharma, Dwijen Sarma, Rupam Sharma, Saurav Sarma and Ripunjoy Goswami.

A case under various sections of IPC for impersonating army personnel, criminal conspiracy, counterfeiting government stamps, forgery etc. has been lodged and further investigation in the matter is underway.
