AIUDF candidates return Assam

The Assam Assembly elections candidates of AIUDF, returned to Assam on Friday after they were sent to Rajasthan by the party.

The party feared of candidate poaching after counting of votes for the Assembly election on May 2 due to which they sent their candidates to Rajasthan last week.

Badruddin Ajmal-led AIUDF is an ally of the Congress-led ‘Mahajot’ (grand alliance) in Assam.

The leaders of AIUDF informed the media in Guwahati that they went to Rajasthan for a vacation after the election.

An AIUDF candidate said, “In Rajasthan, we offered prayers at the Ajmer Sharif and had a discussion with Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on the political situation in the state and elsewhere”.

AIUDF nominee, Aminul Islam, said, “The BJP might try to indulge in horse-trading after the declaration of results, something which the saffron party had done in several states, including Meghalaya, Manipur and Goa.”

Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), has also moved its candidates from Assam before BJP goes for poaching.

Multiple media from Guwahati reported that BPF candidates, along with 16 elected members of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), went to Bhutan or Singapore.

The results of the three-phase elections to the 126-member Assam assembly will be declared on May 2.
