Assam : 40 new colleges in BTC says Himanta Biswa Sarma

In all the 40 constituencies of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), 40 new colleges would be brought up said Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam education minister on Tuesday. During the oath-taking ceremony of the new council of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Sarma made the announcement. Construction of full-fledged stadiums will also be done in these constituencies, besides building new colleges.

At Greenfield, Bodofa Nagar in Kokrajhar, the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of BTC, President of United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), Pramod Boro sworn in, on Tuesday. The next council will be formed by UPPL along with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) together.

Construction work of model colleges to be started in Chirang, Tamulpur and Udalguri from the next month as decided by the government of Assam, said Sarma.

The construction of a new Bodoland University campus will be in Udalguri district. In Tamulpur, a new medical college will be constructed.

Sarma said, the new BTC CEM Pramod Boro will be assisted by the government of Assam in the development of the BTC areas.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma and other dignitaries of the state attended the oath-taking ceremony.

Along with Boro, Four other members along with Boro took oath at the swearing-in ceremony. As the deputy chief of BTC, oath was taken by the former NDFB leader Gobinda Ch Basumatry.

The BTC elections results were declared on December 12. Hangrama Mohilary-led, Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF), the former ruling party of BTC bagged 17 seats and emerged as the single largest party. 12 seats were won by the UPPL and BJP won nine seats. In two phases, the elections were held, the dates were December 7 and 10.
