Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are scheduled to visit Assam on January 23 and 24. The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) said on January 18 that, they will carry out an array of protests and will burn copies of CAA.
It is to be noted that the national leaders are making arrangements for campaign in the state ahead of the assembly election which is due in March-April this year.
Earlier, Assam state Health and Finance Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that “We have prepared a roadmap. PM Modi is likely to visit Assam on January 23.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address rallies at Kokrajhar and Nalbari on January 24.
AASU President Dipankar Nath mocking the Centre said that BJP government could not protect the Assamese community from illegal migrants.
“Every time there is an election, the prime minister will come and make false statements to woo the people of the state. The people of Assam have now understood the truth behind this politics and will never accept the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA),” the president of the students’ wing said to media.
AASU General Secretary Sankarjyoti Barua said that protests will be carried out in every district with black cloth wrapped around the mouth of the members during PM Modi’s visit i.e. on January 23rd, and on January 24th, i.e. during Amit Shah’s Visit the students’ wing will observe it as a ‘Black Day’ and will fly black flags across Assam and burn copies of the CAA.
