The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) has petitioned the government to approve the proposed fourth unit of the Namrup-based Brahmaputra Valley Fertiliser Corporation Limited (BVFCL), as well as the renovation of the existing second and third units.
“The government should immediately take a step for the setting up of the fourth BVFCL plant,” AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi said at a press conference in Dibrugarh on Sunday. The proposal for the fourth unit, estimated to cost Rs 4,500 crore, was approved in principle by the Centre in 2018.”
“However, no progress has been made on the project to date. BVFCL, which was founded in 1969 and was once considered one of the country’s best and most profitable fertiliser industries, has been struggling to stay afloat due to declining production over the years,” he said.
