Ankur Roy, a 22-year-old teenager from upper Assam’s Dibrugarh, perished in the Brahmaputra River.
Ankur Roy, a Dhemaji resident who worked near the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh, went missing on Friday from the bank of the Brahmaputra at Tinkunia in Dibrugarh.
He may have drowned in the river Brahmaputra in Tinkunia on Friday, according to a local, as his clothes were discovered near the river bank.
He perished in the river at about 4.30 p.m. on Friday, according to National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) sources.
After being notified, the NDRF crew promptly launched a search operation. According to the sources, the NDRF will resume the search operation again from Saturday morning.
However, unofficial sources said that Roy has gone missing at the riverbank of Brahmaputra during the immersion of goddess Durga on Vijaya Dashami.
The search operation will be resumed again from tomorrow morning. Further details awaited. A fortnight ago, three persons, including a doctor and a college teacher, had died by drowning when two mechanised boats collided with each other in Jorhat district and now Ankur Roy’s case is an added one.
