From the post of President of Golaghat District Congress Committee, MLA Ajanta Neog was removed by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) vide an order dated December 18, 2020. She was the former minister and present 95 No. Golaghat Constituency.

After the All India Congress Committee (AICC) approved, the decision was taken said Ranjan Bora, the general secretary (organizing) of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC). The order copy has been also forwarded to Jitendra Singh, general secretary of AICC.

Ajanta Neog has not given any statement regarding her joining in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Recently, Her meeting with the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with Himanta Biswa Sarma and Piyush Hazarika, raises indication of the possibility in joining the BJP. Meanwhile, for violating protocol of the Congress party, Ajanta Neog was removed from the President post of Golaghat District Congress Committee.
