Around 233 inmates in 16 jails of Assam were found to be COVID-19 positive.

Out of these 233 cases, 105 were detected from the Sivasagar(51) and Dibrugarh(54) jails.

About 1000 jail inmates in Assam are vaccinated for COVID-19 till May 18. 

Earlier, a suo moto PIL was registered by Gauhati High Court, regarding vaccination of the inmates held in different jails of Assam. 

The Assam Government was directed to file an affidavit by the Gauhati High Court, updating on the process of vaccination of the inmates in jail.
