In Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls, nine seats were won by the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP). To form the council they might join hands with the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL).
For the first time BTC will see a temporary alliance rule as none of the party was able to cross the halfway mark.
The ruling Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) managed to capture 17 seats while Pramod Boro-led UPPL has bagged 12 seats..
Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF has emerged as single largest party to form the council, but the saffron party might not support its ally.
Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was visited by UPPL chief Pramod Boro at his Dispur residence, on Saturday.
The meeting was also attended by Assam BJP president Ranjeet Das and Lok Sabha MP and party national general secretary Dilip.
During the visit to Sarma, Boro was also accompanied by Kokrajhar MP Naba Sarnia, whose Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) party has won just one seat.
The party will make declare their decision on joining hands with the UPPL on Sunday, Minister Sarma said.
BPF chief Mahilarly made a telephonic call to him last night, he informed.
BJP general secretary Dilip Saikia said that BJP is in touch with UPPL to form the next BTC council.
Saikia said, “The people in BTR have wanted a change in BTC rule and the mandate is a clear reflection to it”.
A meeting between BJP leaders and UPPL leaders is scheduled at city’s Lily Hotel on Sunday morning, as per reports.
