Around 40 candidates of Assam Congress party have been shifted to the Dichang Resort at Sonapur near Guwahati ahead of Assam Assembly elections result declaration.
Rupjyoti Kurmi, Wajed Ali Choudhuri and Siddique Ahmed are among the shifted candidates. Senior Congress leader Debabrata Saikia informed that just for a small ‘get together’ the Congress leaders have arrived at the resort.
The moving of the candidates is being looked after by Assam Congress president Ripun Bora who arrived at the resort on Wednesday evening.
This step is taken due to fear of candidate poaching, post counting of the votes for the Assembly election. The results of the Assam Assembly polls will be declared on 2nd of May.
Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), another partner of the Mahajath has also moved their candidates from Assam to an undisclosed country again due to fear of candidate poaching by the BJP. It is suspected that the BPF have moved its 16 candidates of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) to Bhutan or Singapore.
