Assam : Court remands 5 days police custody of DSP Jatin Chandra Das

Deputy Superintendent of Assam Police (border) Jatin Chandra Das and his accomplice, Rafikul Pramanik, were produced before a special court and were remanded a 5 days police custody on June 1,2021. The DSP along with his accomplice were arrested for having links with drug smugglers in western Assam’s Dhubri district.

The special court has fixed June 5, 2021 as the next date of hearing, according to sources. The court will also hear the bail petition on that day.

Police have taken the mobile phones of both the accused to trace their call records for investigation.

It was alleged by the Police sources that Pramanik was working as an agent under the DSP and his task was to collect bribe in place of the DSP.

A case (number 881/21) under Sections 120B/409 IPC read with Section 7a /12 of Prevention of Corruption Act, was registered at Dhubri police station.

It was also reported that Das, who is 59 years old, has been posted in Dhubri district in western Assam for over three decades, since his first posting as a sub-inspector in the border district in 1987.
