The National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) founder chairman, Ranjan Daimary was demanded to be released by Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) CEM Pramod Boro on Saturday stating he was one of the key people to sign the 3rd Bodo Peace Accord agreement.
Members of the NDFB were also asked to be released by Boro.
On January 27, the 3rd Bodo Peace Accord was signed by Bodo stakeholders and the Centre in New Delhi this year.
A memorandum was submitted to Union home minister, Amit Shah by Boro on Saturday.
Boro asserted that the Peace Accord allows all insurgent leaders to join the mainstream.
Boro said, the release of Ranjan Daimary and his colleagues is closely connected as per the provisions of the Accord.
Daimary’s release was also sought by various Bodo groups which includes the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) student wing Bodoland Student’s Union (BSU).
“Ranjan Daimary, who is one of the key signatories to the accord, must be granted bail to work for the cause of the people and supervise the implementation of the clauses of the accord”, said BSU president Swgwmsar Basumatary.
Daimary is sentenced to life imprisonment against conviction of serial bomb blasts in Assam in 2008 by a special court.
To participate in the Bodo peace talks with the centre, Daimary was released on interim bail for four weeks and was taken to New Delhi after which he was sent back to prison again.
