Assam Governor accepts to form new council in BTR

The claim by UPPL-BJP-GSP in forming the new council in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) was accepted by Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi.

The Assam Governor Mukhi was previously asked by Pramod Boro-led United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Kokrajhar MP Naba Sarania-backed Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) to invite them in forming the new BTR council.

The mark for forming the 40-member council is 21.

Despite having the capability of emerging as the single-largest party after winning 17 seats out of 40 the former ruling party Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), led by ex-BTC chief Hagrama Mahilary, was not invited by the Assam Governor.

UPPL president Pramod Boro, who led the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) for several years, has won two seats in the BTC polls including Kokalabari and Goibari.

As the new chief executive member (CEM) of BTC, UPPL president Pramod Boro is ready for the oath-taking ceremony, scheduled to be held on December 15.

BPF President and former BTC chief Hagrama Mahilary urged BJP in helping him form the new council after UPPL-BJP-GSP decided to form the new council.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that to form an alliance with the BPF in BTR is not possible.
